Easton EA-30 Stem Recall

Easton has voluntarily issued a safety recall on 2007, 2008 and 2009 model-year EA-30 Stems (photo). The stems were sold individually packaged and on bicycles.

The stems installed as original equipment on bikes (between $500 and $1,200) were sold through independent bicycle retailers nationwide from August 2007 through August 2009. Aftermarket stems were sold from August 2007 through September 2009 for about $30. This stem can crack and eventually break during use. This obviously poses a fall hazard. Unfortunately, Easton has received one injury report.

The production date identifies if your EA-30 stem is included in the recall. You will find it on the back of the stem next to the lower clamping screw (see close-up below). The code is comprised of the month (denoted by A - L) and the year (denoted by a single digit). Please see the chart below for a list of the recalled stem date codes.

Check the date code to see if your EA-30 stem is recalled.
This date code reads September (I) of 2009 (9) and thus, is not a recalled stem.

If you own a recalled stem, please stop riding immediately and bring it to us so that we can check it. As an authorized Easton retailer, we will inspect and replace it.

For additional information, contact Easton toll free at 1-866-892-6059 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. CST, Monday through Friday.
