I did a good amount of research into what kind of mountain bike I wanted. I would consider myself to be in-between a beginner and intermediate. I definitely wanted a hard-tail bike and I knew I wanted the wheels to be 650b/27.5 inches. There were not a ton of bikes that fit this criteria in my price range. I found the Felt 7 Eighty online and was lucky enough to locate it at a nearby shop. I went to look at it and fell in love with it! So far, I have ridden this bike several times around the local mountain bike trails and I keep enjoying the bike more and more. I am very happy with this bike!

Comments:
Love this bike! I am able to commute around Portland Oregon in the rain, sun and whatever the elements. Portland has many opportunities to avoid the "rush" of hectic cyclists and motorists. Having a MTB, I'm able to turn my commute into a trail/off-road adventure to work or school. I know one of the comments mention "it could be lighter" but that is meaningless. It's 600 bucks, light enough to not complain of the weight....I got a mountain bike anyways so of course they would weight more than any other commuter. It weights about 33lbs. Enough about the weight! This bike is amazing! I shift effortlessly uphill or around town, through/around traffic. I am able to keep up with cars around downtown Portland. All of Portland for that matter. With the fenders and headlights, I feel like I can go over anything with this bike. The 27.5 inch tires give me the ability to roll over anything but just nimble enough for a quick steering response... The disc brakes make it easier to stop when it's raining and keep the brakes out of the mud that I constantly find for some strange reason. :) If you're looking for a bike that is obviously meant for mountain biking but can also be used as a commuter, this Felt is great!
